The Porcupine

I have had little to no time to work on personal projects for a looong time. Frustrating.  I still want to finish "Stack" by Nov.1st...but I've lost about 3 or 4 weeks of production.  It is important for me to take this deadline seriously, though...or why even bother giving myself one.

The porcupine is another character from "Stack".  Here's a promo poster from his band: The Porcupines. (They're not very good.)

I thought this name was pretty clever... then I googled it and wasn't as impressed with myself.

Q is for Quail

I love the outdoors...for six to eight months a year. Wisconsin winters are awful. The cold, the snow and ice, and the layers and layers of clothing...I'm about to lose it! Hurry, spring!!!!!

Thanks, Gina, for the Quail Camouflage suggestion!

F is for Firefly

If it can be brewed, you'll find it at the Firefly! Your one-stop shop for beer, coffee, and trouble.

C is for Chimpanzee

Trust me, you don't want to know what they're made of.

While I play around with this silly little blog, guys like this exist: Pascal Campion. Holy Moley! I don't know if I should be inspired or give up!

E is for Echidna

Echidna Investment Group...Helping you build your nest egg.
What do you think, brown or blue?

W is for Walrus

Here is the first suggested animal logo. Dale, I know you were thinking "combs & such" , but I like how "Walrus Brushes and Such" sounds. I will send you your bill and good luck with the business.

Any other requests out there? 19 letters to go!

These are the letters that are done:

  • P is for Platypus (Platypus Publishing)
  • S is for Sheep (Sleepy Sheep)

  • W is for Walrus (Walrus Brushes & Such)
Please leave any animal company suggestions in the comments after this post.

S is for Sheep

Sleepy Sheep is the best sleep/energy pill available. Get stuff done while you sleep and then go insane.

B is for Bug

Yummy Bugs: available in original Citrus and new Tropical!
Yes, I'm using a generic animal term for this logo (bug). I could have used "beetle", I suppose, but that's generic as well. Whoa! This thing just blew wide open, folks! You can leave your suggestions for fake animal companies in the comments below. Letters A,B,G,P, and T are done. I'm working on a suggestion that I received for the letter W. Dale, I know the anticipation must be driving you crazy. It's coming!

A is for Aardvark

Finally, an exterminator who understands gay issues.

12/14/09

G is for Great White

Nothing says Kentucky like the mighty great white shark. "T", "P" and "G" are done. I'm still taking suggestions for the next 23 letters.

12/10/09

P is for Platypus

Here's another animal logo. I assume Platypus Publishing releases children's books, not Jack Ketchum (who will freak you out if you dare read his work! Good stuff.) I have not posted about children's books since Aug. 16 - Wallaby Story Time. We've come across some great authors and illustrators since then. I think I'll put up Story Time 2 within the next week.

I have received a few ideas for imaginary animal companies. (Thanks, Dale!) There are still 24 letters to go. "T" and "P" are taken, but you can send in your suggestions for the next 24 letters by leaving a comment on this post or e-mailing me: denverwagner@gmail.com

T is for Tapir

I am working on my design skills by creating a series of simple vector logos for imaginary companies. I will create 26 animal logos (one for each letter of the alphabet). Any interesting company names or animals will be considered. So, if you've ever wanted to see a logo for Zebra-Brand Polka-Dot Plates tm , or a mascot for the Tosa Fighting Anemones, here's your chance. This is an on-going project (I know, I know, I've got dozens of those, but it keeps life interesting and it helps develop and practice different skills). This will take a while, which means you can pass suggestions my way until all 26 are done. Let's start with the letter T.

T is for Tapir:

I played around with many layouts, tag lines and lettering styles until I settled on this design. Below, are some color samples using this design.

Charley Harper is my favorite artist of all time. His highly stylized and simplified illustrations of the natural world are mind-blowing. He is a huge influence and inspiration to me. Here are some examples of his work:

This has been a busy week and (hopefully!) there are some large and significant projects on the horizon!
